Two More Ways to Celebrate Our 250th Anniversary Year

November 12, 2015

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Rutgers has begun the yearlong celebration of its 250th anniversary, and I want to highlight two additional ways we are commemorating this milestone.

Earlier this week we premiered a brilliant, new short film, Our Revolutionary Spirit. Rather than attempt to recount our first 249 years, the 11-minute film creatively captures the spirit of our university by highlighting inspirational people in our history through the voices of contemporary Rutgers students, faculty, and alumni who are accomplished in their own right. The film is now available for viewing via the Rutgers 250 website at 250.rutgers.edu/our-revolutionary-spirit.

Revolutionary gift

We have also accepted our first birthday gift: a 40-foot-long monument that celebrates our revolutionary spirit and is designed to encourage community participation in a meaningful and forward-looking program. The gift giver, Johnson & Johnson, has announced its intention to provide scholarship support for Rutgers students at any of our universities who are pursuing health-related professions. Johnson & Johnson will contribute one dollar for these scholarships for every photo our community uploads through its Donate-a-Photo app. You can donate one photo per day, and the money goes to help Rutgers students, so I encourage you to learn more on our website at 250.rutgers.edu/donateaphoto.

My thanks to those involved in organizing these projects, which give us all an opportunity to show our Rutgers pride.

Sincerely,

Bob Barchi
